Hello everybody, happy new year! It’s crazy how quickly time flies, It only feels like yesterday that we were welcoming 2018 in! I love new years, there’s just something about the idea of being able to start with a clean slate that brings so much hope of what’s to come in the next 12 months 😊Today I thought I would do a little debrief of 2018, the goals/resolutions I set myself for last year and the ones I’ve set for 2019 too. It’s been nice to reflect on the past year and just how much we managed to achieve, I’m hoping 2019 will bring even more fun opportunities! Let’s take a look at last years overview/goals/resolutions, shall we?…

Did I Accomplish My 2018 Goals/Resolutions?

You can read the full post of when I set these resolutions here, Question is, did I accomplish them?…

Travel – We travelled to London several times and to Orlando for the first time which was the longest flight I’ve ever been on, so I’d say I achieved this!

Eat Healthier – We definitely ate a lot better in 2018 than we have in previous years. It may have fallen slightly to the wayside in the last few months of the year, but I’m keen to get back at it even stronger this year.

Exercise More – I’d say we did pretty good at this too! We averaged around 15 miles of walking every single day we were at DisneyWorld and a trip to London is also pretty heavy on the walking! We also do a lot of walking at the weekends and any evenings we can so I think we did quite well last year on the walking front. I definitely want to keep this up in 2019 too.

Have A Clear Out At The End Of Each Month – I did actually stick to this for the first few months and then it became every other month that I would do a de-clutter. I did find a love for this though and has become a second nature to have a clear out every now and then. Probably one of the only resolutions I’ve ever stuck to and cemented into my life permanently!

Buy Less Materialistic Things – I sort of stuck to this, I only ever really buy things now that I either know I will 100% use or if it’s something that I need. I always ask myself; Do I need this? Is it going to be worth spending my hard-earned money on? Am I likely to regret buying this in a few days time? and then I end up only really buying things that are necessary. I do of course treat myself every now and then though, still gotta live!

Be Positive and Optimistic – I achieved this much better than I thought I would if I’m honest! I still had a few off days as everyone does but I always tried to keep my mindset positive which I think really worked!

Budget Better – I didn’t actually end up budgeting anything last year – oops! I’ve always been great at saving money though so I guess that sort of counts!

Read More – considering I only read a total of 3 books in 2018, I think we’ll just assume this goal wasn’t met! Must try harder this year for sure.

Practice Piano – Yeah… this didn’t really happen much either! 😬

Cut Ties With Toxic People – I definitely did this one and feel so much better for it! I was also able to leave a lot of negative things that have happened to me in the last few years behind in 2018. It feels like a new chapter has begun for me now and has been a huge relief to move on from some shitty experiences and start fresh with a clean slate.

2019

So now we come to 2019! Here are the goals/resolutions I have set myself for this year…

Travel More – Continuing this one from 2018, This year I would love to travel around Europe a bit and tick off some of the places on my bucket list such as Amsterdam, Paris or Berlin. Unfortunately, working full-time does limit how much you can actually do (such is life!) so we will have to see how many places we get the chance to see this year 🛫

Eat Healthier – This year I want to eat as well as I possibly can. We did quite well for the majority of last year but as I said earlier, the last few months definitely slipped by the wayside! I think it was mostly because there weren’t very many healthy options to choose from at Disney (not that we ate much in the heat) and then once we got back home, I think we just got lazy with our cooking! I’m going to try my absolute best to stick to healthier options this year as I want to try and lose a tiny bit of weight and generally be a bit healthier all around. I’m going to try and cut down on sweets and chocolate and plan to cut out fast food, such as McDonalds and KFC, completely.

As well as eating healthier foods, I want to try and drink more water. I know I don’t drink nearly as much water as I should be drinking so I’m going to try and change that this year. I have a really cool water bottle that has markers on the side to show you how much you should be drinking each hour of the day. I find this works really well for me and once I get into the habit of it, it should hopefully just become second-nature!

Exercise Regularly – My main goal this year is to get fit, eat healthier and lose a little bit of weight! I’m currently at the biggest I’ve ever been and upon checking my BMI, classed as slightly overweight for my petite height of 5’2  😬 I managed to lose 5lbs when we were at Disney and that was just from walking (albeit averaging around 15 miles a day)  but unfortunately, put this all back on over the last few months! I know if I put my mind to it and walk more and exercise regularly, I can definitely get back down to my ideal weight 😊

Put Down The Phone – This year I want to experience more things rather than wasting time scrolling through my phone. I want to nourish my brain, read more books, teach myself new things, create lots of craft projects, practise piano more often and generally make time for better and more productive things!

Read More Books – following on from my last resolution, I would like to read more books this year. I have set up my 2019 Reading Challenge on Goodreads and my goal is to read 10 books this year. I know this doesn’t sound like very many considering a lot of my friends have pledged to read over 50 books but, I work full time, 9 hours a day, 5 days a week. This can be really tiring and doesn’t leave me with time to do much reading after housework, shopping, general errands and other day-to-day activities. Also, even when I worked at a library and was surrounded by books all the time, I only managed to read 13 books in a year so really, 10 doesn’t seem too unrealistic!

See More Shows – We already have ‘Waitress’ and ‘Hamilton’ in the line up for this year which already nearly equals the number of shows I saw in 2018. I’m so excited for these and I’m hoping to squeeze a few more in there too if we’re lucky! I’d love to see Aladdin again before it leaves the West End this year to make way for Mary Poppins (wouldn’t mind seeing this too!) There’s also a rumour that ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ is coming to the West End in Autumn, so this is another one I’d love to see if the rumours are true!

Save Money – I want to do some serious saving this year for a few different things. The main and most important one is buying a house. I’m 22 this year and I’ll be honest, I know I’m still super young but I really want to buy a house! We’ve been in our flat for just over 2 years now and it’s amazing, but I would love my own house with a bit more space that I can decorate the way I want to and make it feel a bit more… me? I know it’s not going to happen overnight but if we start saving now, we’ll be in a good position to look at buying within the next few years 🏡I also really want to go back to DisneyWorld but that is one heck of a chunk of money that would be really beneficial to put towards a deposit on a house so a lot of options to consider in this area, all I know is that I want to start saving more! 💷

Go To Bed Early – 2018 was a really positive year for me mentally. I did, of course, have my down days sometimes as everyone does but, for the most part, I stayed positive and happy 😊 I want to keep focussing more on my physical and mental wellbeing this year and there are several ways in which I intend to do this (see exercise regularly, eat healthier and put down the phone) another one I want to do is start going to bed a little earlier. I’m going to aim to be in bed by 22:30 on weeknights so that I get a decent amount of sleep! As well as going to bed early I want to try and listen to a podcast or do a meditation/relaxation exercise each night on either the Headspace or Breathe app to help me wind down before bed 🧘🏼‍♀️(if you suffer from anxiety/panic and sometimes find it difficult to relax or calm yourself, I highly recommend you give these apps a go!)

So there we have my goals and resolutions for 2019! Who knows what this year will bring? How much of the above will I achieve? Rest assured, I’ll bring you along on the journey and keep you updated as much as I can over the next 12 months 😊

Have you set any goals/resolutions for yourself this year? Let me know in the comments below and I will see you soon with another blog post 😊

Happy 2019, Let’s go for it!
