2021 Reading Challenge – January Edit

Here we are, my first 2021 reading challenge update, one month down, 11 more to go! I always find January pretty easy to sit and crack on with a book, especially this year being furloughed. I very nearly finished two books last month but just fell short a chapter or two of completing my current read, so that will have to wait until February’s update! January’s book was a super easy read…

Scrappy Little Nobody – Anna Kendrick

Genre: Autobiography, Memoir, Humour

I love Anna Kendrick, from starring in ‘Pitch Perfect’ to ‘The Last Five Years’ (my favourite movie musical) I just think she’s one of the funniest human beings on the planet, so when I heard that she’d written a book, I couldn’t wait to grab a copy! (side note: I am aware she published it back in 2017, I’ve only just got around to reading it!)

I find autobiographies really interesting and this one was no exception, I love how down-to-earth and casual Anna seems throughout the book and learning about her early career days and auditions in New York was so fascinating! Speaking of the auditions, her parents seem so chill and supportive! Believing in her and her dreams at such an early age without being pushy is a quality in which I strive to possess when I have kids of my own.

It’s rare these days to find actors that don’t conform to societies ‘norms’ of being entitled and stuck up, but this book is proof that genuinely good people can be successful without letting it get to their heads. Her stories of red carpets and awards ceremonies tell the truth of just how un-glamorous the A-list life really is and how even the money doesn’t come easy, or in abundance as we are led to believe!

Annas witty humour really steals the show with many laugh-out-loud moments, perfectly balanced with some serious ones peppered throughout. This book honestly just made me love her even more, there were a few moments that slowed the pace of the book down a little, but overall, a highly entertaining read! I think anyone who is trying to make it big in the entertainment industry should give it a read just to see the other half live, the grass isn’t always much greener.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
